Black Friday Haul!!! DVD Heaven!

Welcome to part 2 of my Black Friday haul! In this post, I'll be showing you everything I scored at the Walmart Black Friday sale that started 10pm Thursday. My mom, brother, and I staked out the DVD section at 9pm. We spent the next hour standing guard over the movies we wanted while making alliances with other shoppers (I'll grab this if you'll grab that). The mob grew quickly and all we heard was "Attention Walmart Shoppers" before all hell broke loose.

We gnabbed all the movies we could before retreating to the Cosmetics aisle (no people!). Then, we went through everything we grabbed, deciding which we actually wanted, and which ones I would buy--since I'm building my own collection separate from my parents', I thought this would be an opportune moment to contribute.

In the end, I bought 7 DVDs for 2 bucks each. Accidently, my mom bought 2 of my other picks, so I got those basically for free.

Check it!

What I was most excited for were these three movies--the Mummy series! I simply love these movies, albeit the third one (Ugh), so I just had to get these first. My absolute favorite of the three is the Mummy Returns, which I've rented about 6 times since the semester started!

I also got some chick flicks while I was there: He's Just Not That Into You, the Ugly Truth, and the Notebook. I bought the last two and my mom got the first one on accident. I just watched the Ugly Truth yesterday since my roommate hadn't seen it yet. And I'm excited to watch the Notebook again, although it's guaranteed that I'm going to cry.

Unleashed is a movie I've been wanting to see for a while. I saw the trailer while waiting for a different movie to start and thought it seemed interesting. Unfortunately, it proved elusive at my movie rental stores. When I saw it in the $2 section, I just had to get it. I watched it today, and I really enjoyed it--I see a review in this movie's future!

And finally, a great find on my mom's part, GLEE!!! I'm a hardcore Gleek so I was super excited to know this was on sale! This is the complete 1st season, and has 6 discs. I can't wait for a Glee-a-thon!!

I also got a mini food processor for 3 bucks. Awesome deal! We'll see if it works...

I decided to add this little present to my haul. I've been obsessed with the Bath & Body Works scent, Twisted Peppermint, ever since I bought the PocketBac. It smells soo good! Well, I was checking out the BBW website before the Black Friday sale, and I kept coming back to the 3-wick candle. My mom noticed, and decided to give me one of my Christmas presents early: the candle!!

It smells so freaking good, like peppermint frosting! And it came with a free holder which is winter-themed. Love!

This is probably one of my favorite holiday scents, along with Apple Wreath.

So pristine and white!

Black Friday Haul!! Bath & Body Works

Black Friday!!! Believe it or not, this year was actually my first year to ever take part in a Black Friday event, namely, the 10pm Walmart sale on Thursday. However, this post will be a Black Friday from one of my all time favorite stores: Bath and Body Works! They had some great deals (buy 3, get 3 free; stackable coupons) and a great gift bag that you could purchase for just $20 after spending $40.

Here we go!

Taking full advantage of the BOGO offer, my mom, sister, and I all got some new items. Their purchases included 2 body lotions (Dark Kiss and Sensual Amber), a fragrance mist (Black Amethyst), and a hand soap (Winter Cranberry) with a fancy-schmancy silver cover. My picks definitely ran to the fruitier/flowery side.

My first pick was a shower gel in Paris Amour, one of my fave BBW scents. I already have a mini lotion, the fragrance mist, and the shimmer mist, and I was in need of a body wash and thought, why not? This scent just came out this last August, and is made up of a blend of French tulips, apple blossoms, and pink champagne. It’s the absolute perfect sweet blend of flowers and fruit, with a touch of sexiness added by the champagne notes. Love!

The next thing I picked up was a Japanese Cherry Blossom intense moisture body butter. Yumm!! This is one of BBW’s best-selling scents, and, unbelievable, I used to hate it! I couldn’t stand the smell of it in high school, but last year, I discovered a love of it. I have the Select-A-Shimmer product, which is a fusion of a body lotion and a shimmer gel with a dial that lets you decide the lotion-to-shimmer ratio you want, and I finished off a mini body butter last spring. The scent smells strongly of cherry blossoms (obviously!) with a hint of something woody, like sandalwood. It’s a very earthy, yet sexy scent.

Next, I picked up a moisturizing hand soap for my apartment. Christmas is coming up soon, and I thought it’d be nice to have a themed soap to go with the season. The scent I chose was Apple Wreath, which I already have the PocketBac of. This soap is a nice blend of green apple, apple cider, and pine with a hint of cinnamon; the ultimate Christmas scent!

The thing I was most excited for was the awesome gift bag. A $103 value, this bag was available for only 20 bucks! Yay! The bag consisted of a black tote with a zebra-print interior, filled with a bunch of full-sized products. Attached to the bag was a silver jingle bell, and a Mistletoe Kiss PocketBac (smells like legit holly and berries) in a sparkly-red PocketBac Holder. Inside were two makeup bags: one med-large zebra-print (which my sister took) and one med red giraffe-print (which I claimed). There was also a light pink loofah, which I gave to my sister.

Now for the products!

The bag included 3 items from the new scent collection, Be Enchanted: shower gel, body lotion, and shimmer mist. In August, I bought the $1 sample-size lotion and really liked it (and my mom gifted me another one when I got home for the holidays, ha). Be Enchanted is a sugary scent with a touch of tartness, consisting of pomegranate and sugared flower petals. Yum! Of the 3 products, I decided to keep the shower gel and the lotion, and my sister claimed the shimmer mist.

Next was a body lotion from the Aromatherapy line called Sleep – Night Time Tea. Sleep contains a mix of white water lily, malachite, cedarwood, and orange essential oils. Personally, I’m not a fan. I’m not too partial towards herbal scents, so I was more than happy to give this to my mom when she asked.

Also in the bag was a foaming hand soap in Mistletoe Kiss. A blend of sweet orange, mandarin, cinnamon, and vanilla, this smells astonishingly just like mistletoe. Unfortunately, it’s not my kind of smell, so it has been relegated to my parents’ house.

The last two items consist of a sparkly-lilac pump (probably to put in the body lotion) and a lip gloss. The lip gloss is in Cranberry Kiss, a part of the Liplicious All I Want holiday line, and is a super shimmery melon-rose color. It smells exactly like cranberries, isn’t sticky, and tastes delicious. Win!

Overall, I’m super excited to use everything. I’ve used all these types of products before and wasn’t disappointed. If you guys want reviews on any of these products, or of other BBW products, just let me know. I will most likely be doing a BBW collection post around the end of the year, giving you guys a chance to see some of my favorite products and scents.

Stay tuned for the rest of my Black Friday haul!

ELF Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder

Hey guys! I’ve got a product review for you guys! It’s been a long long while since I’ve done one of these, but that’ll change in the future. Today I’m going to be talking about a bronzer/blush duo from one of my all-time favorite brands, ELF! I’m sure you’ve all seen/heard about it before, but I decided to do a little review on it, so here we go!

Claim: “Create a healthy and natural glow all year long. The Blush highlights the cheeks to add a flush of color, while the Bronzer accents and contours cheekbones for beautiful definition.”

First Impression: Holy crap, this is dark!

Let’s start with the blush, a light peachy color with lots o’ gold shimmer. The blush looks very pretty in the pan, and it swatches beautifully. However, when applied to the face, the pigment doesn’t really show up. You mostly just get a bunch of shimmer across your cheeks, which I’m not much a fan of.

The bronzer is a dark chocolatey-brown color with some gold shimmer in it. Its super super pigmented and definitely not the easiest thing in the world to blend. However, when used with an extremely light hand (and I mean light, like one dab light), the bronzer builds up into a gorgeous contour. When used lightly, it blends out nicely, and the shimmer is hardly noticeable.

This product has been likened to the NARS Orgasm/Laguna blush and bronzer duo. Having swatched both of the NARS products while window shopping at Sephora (too expensive for me!), I’d say that the bronzers are interchangeable with each other. The ELF blush, however, is not as pigmented as the NARS, though they are a very similar color. The ELF Essential blush in Glow is much more close to Orgasm in both color and pigmentation.

I give this duo 3 out of 5 stars—one star off because the blush is just ehh and another star off because the bronzer is not the easiest product to work with. I would however repurchase this once I run out, and I would recommend the bronzer, especially if you have a medium to dark skin tone (the dark brown color is probably too much for fair skin tones).

The duo is available for $3 at and at most Targets and Kmarts.

What do you think?

Nails of the Day: Simple Fall theme

I've decided to start doing Nails of the Day since its a nice and easy way to get new nail/manicure ideas while allowing me to have some shorter blog posts ;P

I recently dug into my rather extensive nail polish collection and pulled out this old gem: CQ Java. It's rather old, so I'm not sure if it's still available, but that's just a quick Google search away. In my opinion, Java is a pretty unique shade. At first, it looks like a regular medium-tone brown, but if you look closer, you can see a purple undertone and a ton of gold shimmer. One coat will give you a nice purply-wine color with gold shimmer, but as you layer it on, it'll become a very rich bronzy-brown shade.

I applied a clear basecoat using my favorite clear polish: Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Invisible. I let the basecoat dry completely before adding three layers of Java, waiting 15 minutes between each layer. Waiting between layers helps prevent smudging or dents in your polish. Then, for a pop of color, I used one of my nail art pens, a pumpkin-color glitter with a clear base, and drew a diagonal line across each nail. The pen was part of a set of 20 that I got for Christmas last year--I'm not 100% sure who makes them!

I think this is a very fall-esque nail look and perfectly fitting for the coming holiday weekend.

If you'd like to learn more about the nail art pens, I can do a post on them later.

Hello, my peeps! Happy Friday! It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday! Haha sorry for putting that in your head! I just love Fridays, especially because I only have one class and its over by 10am. Wooo!

So this look was something I just whipped up while playing with my ELF 100 palette. I've been trying to make a real effort to get some use out of this thing. This look is pretty simple and easy with a fun pop of glitter eyeliner. I wasn't sure what to call it, but I thought it seemed faintly tropical so Calypso worked.

To start, I used an eyelid primer to prep my lids. Next, I mixed a teal shadow with a shimmery light blue and swept it across the entire lid. Then taking a golden color, I patted it onto the inner third of my top and bottom lids. I blended a shimmery medium-tone pink shadow into the crease with a blending brush, followed by a hot pink shade in the outer corner to add depth. Blend a light pink shade along the top of the crease to soften any harsh lines and take a matte white shade under the brow for a highlight. Next, I took a bright true-blue shade along the outer third of my lower lid and then the medium pink along the middle to blend the blue and gold shades together.

Taking a black liquid liner, create a thick wing for a semi-dramatic cat-eye. I do love my dramatic liner! Then, for a little added oomph, take an aqua glitter liner and trace over the black liner. Finish up by curling your lashes and applying a thick coat of mascara.

Hope you enjoyed this easy, pretty look! More to come!

Products used:
ELF Eyelid primer
ELF 100 palette
ELF Liquid liner in Black
Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers glitter liner in Magical
Covergirl LashBlast Luxe in Black Platinum

Simple Masquerade Mask

"Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquarade. Hide your face so the world can never find you..."

I don't think I'll ever be able to hear the word masquerade without having the Phantom of the Opera go streaming through my head. Anyways, I have a masquerade ball coming up the first weekend of December and I was feeling inspired to try my hand at a makeup mask. I know its not amazing, but I think it's pretty good for a first attempt. If I would've been able to completely blot out my brows and get the white face makeup even, I'm sure it would've been better. I'll keep working on this one!

Instead of starting with the face like I normally do, I decided to start with my eyes this time. I concentrated heavily on the eyes, trying to make sure they were completely even and totally blacked out. To me, nothing looks better with a mask than pure black around the eyes. So mysterious!
I took a black cream eye liner and drew a cat-eye shape, bringing the liner all the way up to just above my crease. I also took it a bit lower on the bottom lid than I normally do, and brought the inner corner down slightly. Then I set the liner with a matte loose eyeshadow to complete the shadowed look. In the inner corner, I added a red-bronze cream shadow for a subtle spot of color. (Oops, forgot mascara! Gads!!)

To start the mask, I used a white eyeliner to sketch out the general shape of the mask. I then took white face makeup left over from Halloween and filled in the outline, trying to make the application as even as possible. Then, I set the white makeup with a matte white eyeshadow to keep it from smearing and to help smooth it out even more. Lightly, I took the black cream liner around the entire mask to give it some definition.

I didn't know initially what I wanted to do with the mask, though I did know that I wanted to keep it simple. I decided to add some dimension/shadow by using a bright pink eyeshadow and lightly blending it along the edges of the mask and around the eyes. Then I took a hot pink blush and brushed it around the temples and over my brows.

For lips, I used a pink lipliner to slightly extend the shape of my lips, making them appear a bit more plump. I topped it off with a bright pink lipstick and some pink gloss!

All in all, it's not the greatest look I've done, but its ok. This one has been labeled "Needs Improvement". I hope you enjoyed it regardless and that it inspired you to take on your own masquerade look!

My First Jewelmint Purchase!!

If you follow any beauty/fashion blogs or watch gurus on YouTube, you already know about Jewelmint: a website offering hand-picked celeb-inspired and -designed jewelry for $29.99 each. You can check it out here. I became a member mostly to just look at what they were offering so I could find look-a-likes in stores or come up with some DIY projects. Cheapskate that I am, 30 bucks is a bit steep for a necklace or some earrings.

In an email I received, Jewelmint had a one-day deal offering a small array of items for $9.99. Deal!! I couldn't pass up that opportunity!

I was really pleased with the customer service. My order shipped out two days after ordering and arrived a week earlier than planned.

The beautiful mint-colored box.

I ordered the Lost City Necklace, a very Mayan-inspired tribal piece, which I instantly fell in love with!

Here's a close-up: so pretty!

I've already paired this with a black blouse, and I really liked the trendy touch to an otherwise simple outfit.

Check out Jewelmint, and tell me what pieces you really like!

Beauty Challenge: Face Products Only!

I've been mulling over the idea of starting a few makeup series on here, so I'd be more likely to blog at regular intervals. This first series will be Beauty Challenges: challenges including limits on products or tools I can use, time limits, skill challenges, etc. Feel free to leave a comment below with any challenge ideas you have!
This first challenge was to create a full face look using only face products. This was actually easier than I thought it would be (except for the lips) since I usually only wear face products on the average day. The result was a sort-of tropical eye, peachy-bronze skin, and a natural looking lip.

For the face, I basically did my everyday makeup. I started with my ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer all over the face followed by Neutrogena SkinClearing foundation in Fresh Beige (#70). Next, I used the ELF All Over Cover stick in Apricot Beige as a concealer under the eyes and on any problem spots. I set everything with NYC Translucent Loose face powder. I contoured with the ELF Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder--this bronzer has been my go-to for a while, though I still like the Rimmel Natural Bronzer better. For cheeks, I first applied Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Pink Frosting with my fingers and then layered over it a bit of ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Sun Kissed. Go easy with this bronzer, because too much can result in very orange cheeks! Finally, I used Maybelline Lunar Energy powder in Moon Dust (discontinued; I found mine at the dollar store!) to highlight my cheeks, nose, and browbones.

For eyes, I "primed" my lids with a self-mixed concealer. I used ELF All Over Color stick in Golden Peach as a sort of cream-color base which I topped off with the ELF Natural Radiance Blusher in Glow. This is a super pigmented blush with a gorgeous color, very similar to NARS Orgasm, but it does have quite a bit of fall-out. In the crease, I used ELF Studio blush in Pink Passion and then Covergirl Cheekers in Classic Pink to soften the hot pink color. On the lower lid, I used the Pink Passion blush on the outer half of the eye, and the Glow blush on the inner half. For a bit of highlight, I used the ELF Shimmer Palette (light pink shade) on the tear duct and inner corner.

And finally for lips, I mixed a Sally Hansen Natural Beauty concealer in Dark with the highlighter from the ELF Under-Eye Concealer & Highlighter duo, and applied it to the lips. I topped it off with Physician's Formula Happy Booster blush in Rose to add a pink tint.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this look. I love how the eyes turned out, and I'm sure it'd be doubly awesome with some mascara. I really like the lip color too; hopefully I have a lipstick/gloss combo that gives me the same look!

Try the challenge for yourself!

Pulling a Successful All-Nighter

The bane of every college student in existence is the dreaded all-nighter--the inevitable result of the combination of procrastination, lack of time, and the comeuppance of too many things at once. Since its midterm season here in university-land, and seeing as I just pulled a mini all-nighter last night writing a paper, I thought I'd share with all of you my tips on how to successfully pull an all-nighter and get all of your stuff done.

Tip #1: Find a Quiet Space
Gather all of the work you need to do (i.e., textbooks, notebooks, pencils, laptop, etc) and find a quiet space to work in. Its unbelievably easy to get distracted by your roommates or floormates, so remove temptation with self-imposed isolation.

Tip #2: Bring Munchies
Having something to snack on relieves any hunger pains while also giving your brain a bit of a break. Doing an activity that requires little mental capacity, such as snacking, gives your pounding head a bit of rest, allowing it to focus on a rather mindless action. Also, the consistent movement of your hand and arm to and from your face will keep you awake. Trust me, it works.

Tip #3: Caffeinate
I know, I know, caffeine bad, water good. But in the case of an all-nighter, caffeine is vital. It stimulates your brain, allowing you to stay up past your regular physical capacity. Your favorite soda works, but drinks like tea, iced tea, or coffee actually have 3x more caffeine than your average can of soda. If you're really ambitious, you can go for the evil energy drinks, but be prepared for one hell of a crash in 4 hours!

Tip #4: Switch up Topics
When pulling an all-nighter, you will most likely be working on at least two or more subjects at once. In order to balance your intake of knowledge, switch topics every 45-60 minutes. This will give your brain a little break from whatever topic your looking at, and allow you to get more work done.

Tip #5: Take Breaks
Give yourself little 5-10 minute breaks every once in a while to relax. Stand up and stretch, take a quick jog down your hallway, go to the bathroom, do anything you need to do before you get back to work. Breaks will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed by all of your schoolwork.

Tip #6: Change Position
If you've been sitting in the same spot for 2.5 hours and can no longer feel your ass, move! Readjusting the way your sitting keeps you awake and is so much more comfortable. Start sitting normally, then sit on one leg and then switch, or you can sit Indian-style. Try non-conventional poses, like sitting backwards in the chair, or laying with your legs resting vertically against the wall. Trust me, it works.
And never, ever, ever, EVER lay down completely. You WILL fall asleep, no matter the amount of caffeine that is going through your veins.

Tip #7: Know When to Quit
If you're looking at your book or your computer screen and the text starts looking a little like this: sdofn eoifdvd sdfnkre dofj eodfja oreif doso doif wenl cat
you should probably go to bed. Believe me, when your reading skills revert to the level of a dog, you're done for the night. This is your brain's way of telling you "I hate you and I'm ending this." Do yourself a favor and go to bed. Otherwise, you're gonna end up with weird notes that say "the key to social change is pigskins" or "all aliens are all aliens are all aliens with cats." No bueno.

I hope the tips are helpful for all you students/slackers out there. Good luck!
