24 Questions Tag!!

Hey guys! I know I've been terrible about posting lately--I had finals to deal with, moved back home for the summer, and started up work full time. I don't know how regular posts will be, but I will try to post more often!

Today I decided to do the 24 Questions Tag. I've seen it on a couple of blogs and since I love filling out tags, I thought I'd do it. Here goes!

1.How did you come up with your blog name?
Moonless Night was actually a poem I wrote some years ago after reading New Moon by Stephenie Meyer (Unbelievably nerdy I know). I’ve just always liked the phrase, and use it as my username for almost everything. And 14 was my number for all my sports in high school.

2.What is your favorite subject in school?
In high school, I loved Creative Writing, Art, and Government. In college, my favorites are psychology, neuroscience, and sociology (my major!).

3.What's your favorite drink?
Coke Zero. Or coffee—Caribou’s Mocha Mint is freaking fabulous!

4.What is your favorite song at the moment?
We Are Young by Fun. I also love the covers by Glee and Joseph Vincent.

5.What would you name your kids?
I will have a son named Jace (my future husband has no say in the matter, haha). I also like the name Tyson Radley for a boy and Chloe Renee or Christine Marie for girls.

6.Do you participate in any sports?
In high school, I played softball and volleyball. Now, I ballroom dance and swim.

7.Favorite book?
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

8.Favorite color?
Hot pink and teal.

9.Favorite animal?
Elephants!! They’re soo adorable! Ooh and owls!

10. Favorite perfume?
I love Miami Glow by JLo. I was devastated when it was discontinued. My favorite fragrance mists are Carried Away, Into the Wild, and Paris Amour, all by BBW.

11. Favorite holiday?

12. Do you like school?
I like being at school. The homework, reading, papers, and exams suck, but I love my friends and city life. Some classes are really great, though, and it’s always fun learning something new.

13. Have you ever been out of the country?
Canada once.

14.Do you speak any other languages?
I’ve taken two semesters of French and I’m fairly good at it. And I took three years of Spanish in high school, but I don’t remember much of it.

15.How many pets do you have?
We have two dogs, Emma and Grover; two cats, Lily and Tana; and a bunch of fish.

16.What is your favorite store?
Truth? A used bookstore. I could get lost in one for hours.

17. Favorite restaurant?
Chinese buffets. I could’ve just eaten a full meal and still have room for Chinese immediately after.

18.What do you want to major in?
I’m majoring in Sociology of Law, Criminology, and Deviance, and may be minoring in Psychology.

19. Favorite beauty guru?
Xsparkage—I adore Leesha!

20.Favorite movie?
I could never choose just one.

21.Favorite TV show?
Vampire Diaries, Dexter, True Blood, and Glee

22.PC or Mac?

23.What kind of phone do you have?
An LG Rumor Touch

24. Are you tall?
For a girl, yes. I’m 5 foot 9.

Hope you guys enjoyed this tag! See you in a later post!

Soul Surfer (2011)

Directed by: Sean McNamara
Starring: AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, & Helen Hunt
Rated PG for an intense accident sequence and some thematic material

I remember reading about Bethany Hamilton several years ago after her accident. Then, truthfully, I completely forgot about her. I don’t follow surfing, and I’m not affiliated with any of her charities. But when I heard about this movie, I remembered all I’d heard about her.

Soul Surfer was actually a pretty decent film. Based off the book written by Bethany herself, the movie tells the story of Bethany’s life immediately before and after her shark attack. Anna Sophia Robb was Bethany Hamilton. I found her portrayal very real and sincere, and she pursued the role with great maturity. The scene where she questions why God let such a thing happen to her was heart wrenching. (Fun fact: Bethany actually asked Anna Sophia to play her after watching Bridge to Terabithia!) I’ve enjoyed watching Anna Sophia grow up in front of the camera, and from what I’ve seen so far, I’m excited to see where her career goes.

We also had a starstudded cast, which I always enjoy in movies. Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt played Bethany’s parents, and were the ultimate supportive parents. They also did their own surfing in the film! (Bethany did most of the stunt work for Anna Sophia.) Carrie Underwood made her acting debut as Bethany’s youth counselor, Sarah—she did fairly well, though I could tell that she’d never acted before. And playing Bethany’s best friend, Alana, was Lorraine Nicholson, daughter of the one and only Jack Nicholson.

I really did enjoy the film. There were a few hokey moments that just screamed “Hollywood,” but they were few and far between. The actual shark attack was toned down, and concentrated more on her friends’ efforts to get her to a hospital, which I thought was a very good way of showing it. It’s a good, easy movie to watch. I don’t think it’s a necessity in your movie collection, but it is definitely rent worthy.

Check out the film's Imdb page here.

Annalynne McCord's Olive & Bronze look

Hey guys! I saw this look on Glamour a couple months ago, and finally tried a look out. It's a very easy yet cool look with olive shadow on top, a bit of bronze on bottom, and lots of brown liner. And I only used one palette: Wet n Wild Comfort Zone!!

Original look--close up
Here's the finished look! A little different, but virtually alike.

Spring into Spring Fashions

Semi-recently, I was playing around on Polyvore and made a few outfits that I thought would be great for spring!

Check 'em out!

Outfit 1: Dressy Casual

I thought this look was just soo pretty. I think it's perfect for the office, a date, or if you just feel like dressing up for the day. I think mint and baby-girl pink are perfect for spring and look great together. With a sleek white blazer and a gorgeous structured bag, this is a perfect springtime look.

Outfit 2: Country Chic

This outfit is my comfy-yet-chic look which I frequently wear. A soft flannel shirt and comfy jeans look great with a corset-style top, some chunky boots, and delicate accessories. Bad-a**, yet delicate.

Outfit 3: Sexy Date Night

Perfect for a date night or fancy party. Instead of reaching for your trusty LBD, try a LWD (little white dress). It's unexpected, and will help you stand out. Some pretty heels, aqua jewelry, and a fierce orange mani/pedi will have you looking like one smokin' babe!

I hope you enjoyed this little fashion post, and hopefully, you got a little spring-fashion inspiration. See you in a later post!

Check me out on Pinterest and Twitter!!

Vibrant Purple 'Smokes'

Hey guys, time for a quick new tutorial! This is a really easy, super pretty purple 'smokey' eye. It's not a true smokey eye, in my opinion, but it's vibrant and happy looking :)

NOTD: Forever Lilac

Hey guys! Here's a quick Nails of the Day: lilac! Now, I don't normally reach for the purples in my collection (I definitely lean more towards pinks and neutrals) but this shade was just calling to me.

This is Sally Hansen Diamond Strength polish in Forever Lilac (#22), a lilac purple with tons of silver microglitter. So pretty! And true to it's name, this "no chip" nail color lasted a whopping 6 days without chipping (with no top coat)!!

The only complaint I have about this polish is it's suuuuper sheer. I used 4 coats and still had a visible nail line!

xsparkage's Peachy Keen Jelly Bean! look

Hey guys, tutorial time! This look is based off a makeup look that Leesha at xsparkage did back in January. I recently got a bright orange shadow and bright blue liner, so I thought I'd give the look a try. It's bright, colorful, and surprisingly wearable!

Songs of the Month: Vol. 2

Welcome to the March edition of Songs of the Month! This month, I had quite a few songs on repeat, so let's jump right on in!

1. "Non, Je ne Regrette Rien" by Edith Piaf
I had this song stuck in my head for two straight weeks this month. You might recognize it from Inception, Bull Durham, or La Vie En Rose, all of which it was featured in. I've been working on learning the lyrics, since I'm taking French. Music is such a great way to learn! But back to the song. Edith has an amazing voice and the French just rolls of her tongue. It's an absolutely amazing song.

Spring Beauty Haul!!

Hey guys! I know I've been super terrible about posting this month, but March has been pretty hectic! I had three midterms the first week, then Spring Break, then more school, my 20th birthday yesterday, and have three tests next week. Phew!

Anywho, I thought I'd post about the latest additions to my makeup/nail polish collections! I did forget one thing (Rimmel lipstick in Crush) but otherwise, this is everything I've gotten for myself this past month. Self-control at its finest ;) The majority of the haul is nail polish (who knew I was a closet-junkie? Certainly not me!), so much so, that I had to promise my mother that I wouldn't buy any new polish until May. Gahh! And of course, now all I can think about is all the new shades I want.

Well anyways, here's to the haul!

Picture's upside down--I'm a genius

The first two things I picked up were from the Dollar Tree. I just love dollar stores--you never know what you're gonna find! I managed to find some ELF Studio 2 in 1 Conditioning Glosses which normally sell for $3 at The two colors I picked up were Love It and Fanatic.

Love It is a lovely bubblegum pink with gold shimmer.

Fanatic is an awesome bright orangey-red with lots of gold shimmer.

Top: Fanatic
Bottom: Love It

NOTD: Undercover Rose

I think I've found a new favorite nail color! This color is so pretty and sophisticated! Wet n Wild's new Megalast nail polishes are pretty phenomenal. This shade, Undercover, is a gorgeous dusty rose shade with a creme finish. It's surprisingly opaque--I only had to use 2 coats!
No flash

I've had this on since last Friday with no top coat, and have had barely any chipping! Kudos to drugstore nail polish!
With flash
I do have to say, the color appears a lot lighter in the bottle than on your nails, but it's so pretty that it doesn't matter! Usually, I'm more of a hot pink/lots of glitter gal, but I really am addicted to this shade! It has definitely earned a permanent place in my polish collection.

It's also very similar to China Glaze's Dress Me Up from the Hunger Games Collection. Possible dupe??
P.S. This color is the only one in the collection that is completely sold out at my local CVS. Other ladies seem to like it too!

DIY "Flutter" ring

A while back, I was surfing looking at the designer shows for Spring 2012. While looking through the accessories, I spotted this super cute ring by Flutter. It reminded me of those little anchor buttons that you seem to see everywhere, and I though, why not make my own? So I did!
Too cute, right?

Here is what the finished product looks like:
It's not exactly alike, but it has the same vibe.

What you need:
  • A gold ring
  • A gold button
  • Wire cutters
  • Super glue

Take your wire cutters and snip off the little loopy thing off the back of the button, getting as close to the button as possible.

Take an old ring (mine was in the back of an old jewelry box) and super glue the button to the top/front of the ring.

Don't skimp on the super glue--you don't want the button to randomly pop off!

Let the glue dry completely, and ta-da! You're very own designer ring!

I hope you enjoyed this little mini-DIY. You could also use different buttons for a variety of different looks. The sky's the limit!

Songs of the Month Vol.1

Hey guys! Now, I'm a huge music lover. I can't go a day without listening to my mp3 player, and I've never driven a car with the radio off since I first got behind the wheel. The other day, while listening to my favorite song of the moment, I thought why don't I blog about these? So, I've decided to start sharing my favorite songs, hopefully on a monthly basis.

1. "Hey Na Na" by Katie Herzig
This is my all-time favorite song of the moment--I've probably listened to it 2-4 times everyday for the past two weeks! The first time I saw/heard it was on Dianna Agron's Tumblr and I instantly fell in love with it. From the first beat, all you want to do is sort of bounce up-and-down in place, an urge that continues throughout the entire song. The lyrics are sweet and slightly whimsical, and Katie is unbelievably easy to sing along with. The video is kooky, funny, and eccentric,  but surprisingly simple.

2. "Secret" by the Pierces
Sister duo Catherine and Allison Pierce bring the next song on my list. "Secret" has a definite 60s vibe with its soft, echoing vocal sound, accordion accompaniment, and mod styling. Catherine has a great Bridget Bardot look going on while Allison's back-up vocals are slightly haunting. The chorus is unbelievably catchy, and I just can't stop listening to it!
(Any Pretty Little Liars fans out there? This song was featured on the show!)

3. "Sexy, Naughty, Bitchy" by Tata Young
Every party girl's new anthem! The first time I saw/heard this, I'd been watching a bunch of Disney mash-ups on YouTube. This song came up and I instantly loved it. I love how the lyrics convey a confident girl who doesn't give a rip about what others think about her. Slightly inappropriate, I'll admit, but it's definitely become my go-to confidence booster. (I think the video here is funny too; it really captures some aspects of Disney's heroines!)

4. Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) by Kelly Clarkson/Glee
Ok, I'm kind of cheating on this one since it's two different artists, but oh well. I'm obsessed with this song! I love it the first time I heard it during that car commercial Kelly was in, and then I loved it even more when Glee performed it. It's the perfect song for the single-and-loving-it crowd or just to fist pump to with your girls.

And the Glee version:

And that's all for February! Let me know in the comments what YOU've been listening to all month!!

MySpace Questionnaire Tag

Hey guys! So I admit, I never had a MySpace page. I didn't really see the appeal when it first came about, and then I thought that Facebook was just so much better. I think I made the right choice :) Anyways, I was going through my "Watch Later" list on YouTube since I had completely filled it (200 vids max!) and found that I'd added this tag video back in August. Yes, August! Since tags are so fun and easy, I thought I'd quickly fill this one out for you guys!

1) Are you a gullible person? Not really. I actually tend to be rather cynical :/

2) Are you left handed or right handed? Right handed
3) What are 3 items you will always find in your refrigerator? Coke Zero (completely addicted), leftovers (whenever I cook, I make extras so I have something for lunch the next day), and eggs!

4) What is your favorite planet? I've always been partial to Jupiter and Neptune. I think it's because I associate them with the Sailor Moon series--Sailor Neptune had the most gorgeous teal hair!!

5) Who is the 4th person on your missed call list on your cell? My friend Mary
6) What is your favorite ringtone on your phone? Starstrukk by 3OH!3. Makes me wanna dance everytime my phone rings

7) If you could kiss anyone, who would it be? Hugh Jackman. Or Johnny Depp. :D

8) Have you ever had detention? My school actually didn't have detention; we just had in-school suspension (ISS). And no, I never had it.

9) What is your favorite type of pizza? Barbeque Chicken Pineapple

10) Do you like super spicy food? Not really

16) Do you sing in the shower? I used to, but sharing one bathroom with 3 other girls (and the fact that I only shower at night) makes it très awks.

17) What do you do when you can't fall asleep? Read a bit of whatever book I'm reading at the moment

18) Who was your first crush? Zachary in Kindergarten. He was the cutest boy in our class :)

19) Do you play any instruments? Flute
20) What was your worst injury ever? Just before the end of sophomore year of high school, I tore my ACL playing softball. I ended up having surgery that June (my first, ever!) and spent the rest of the summer rehabing. I was unable to play volleyball the next year and had to give up catching in softball.

21) What is your current desktop picture? An owl made out of coffee beans and cups of coffee

So cute!

22) What is the last song you listened to? Stonger by Kelly Clarkson. I'm obssessed!

And that's it! I hope you guys enjoyed this tag, and I will see in later posts!

Michelle Trachtenberg's Flirty Eye Look

Being on Glamour's email list has given me quite a bit of beauty inspiration these past few weeks. A week or two ago, they did a feature on Michelle Trachtenberg's black and purple eye look. I thought it was so pretty and flirty, that I decided to try it out.

Here's the original look

Now for the close up

and closer...

In the original look, Michelle wore winged out liquid liner on top with a bright purple pencil liner on bottom.

Great contact shot, sheesh!

On the upper lid I used my ELF cream eyeliner in Black. I didn't wing it out since my hooded eyes don't carry a wing well.

Underneath I used Wet n Wild Idol Eyes creme eyeshadow pencil in Techno. Its a gorgeous purple with a blue tint to it. So pretty!

To top off the look, I used two coats of L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara on top and one coat on bottom. Done!

I love this look, and I've been sporting variations of it all week. Using a peacock green color looks absolutely fabulous too!

NOTD: Glammy Pink & Gold

Hey guys! Long time no blog! Sorry about that. I've got a new nails of the day post for you guys: Pink and Gold!! I absolutely love this color combo; its so glam and I just can't stop staring at it!

with flash

no flash

To get this nail look I used two different polishes: L'Oreal Amazon's Flash and China Glaze Crackle in Broken Hearted. After putting on a base coat, I applied three coats of the L'Oreal. It's a very sheer shade since it's a clear base with very finely-milled glitter, but it sparkles like no other! The photos really don't do it justice.

How gorgeous is that pink?!

I was so excited to use Broken Hearted. I had gotten the complete China Glaze Original Crackle collection for Christmas and was dying to try them out! After everything dried completely, I applied a coat of Broken Hearted, which crackled very nicely and was quite opaque so the gold didn't shine completely through.

I topped everything off with two coats of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Invisible, and my mani has lasted for 6 days now with minimal chipping. Win!

A Must-Try Recipe: Ratatouille!!

Who doesn't like French food? I started taking French this past fall, and an assignment in the class was to write a one-page paper about a French cultural experience we had. My mom was making this vegetable dish, and I thought it seemed really similar to Ratatouille. I compared the recipes and they were exactly the same!

I decided to share this recipe with you guys today. It's delicious and incredibly healthy. And let me tell you, I hate vegetables with a passion, but I ate a lot of this!

• 2 Tbsp olive oil (divided)
• 1 c. chopped shallots
• 2 cloves of garlic, minced
• 1 eggplant
• 1 zucchini
• 1 yellow squash
• 3 large Roma tomatoes
• ½ cup grated Permesan cheese
• Salt and black pepper, to taste

(Weary of some of the ingredients? Don't worry! Cooked eggplant doesn't really have a strong flavor to it, and can be replaced with sliced potatoes if you want. With the other ingredients, the dish tastes a lot like spaghetti sauce.)

• Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
• Coat a baking dish with olive oil cooking spray.
• Heat 1 Tbsp of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the shallots and sauté until translucent (about 8 minutes). Add the garlic, and cook for another minute. Spread the mixture on the bottom of the greased baking dish.
• Slice the eggplant, zucchini, squash and tomatoes into ¼ inch thick slices. Layer them alternately in the dish on top of the shallots, fitting them tightly into a spiral, making only one layer. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste. Drizzle the last tablespoon of olive oil over the top.
• Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 35 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on top and bake for another 25-30 minutes or until browned.

The results are delicious--it tastes almost exactly like spaghetti sauce, and is traditionally served with grilled chicken. Yum!!

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow

I'm sure you've already seen these new Maybelline shadows all over Youtube and in your local drugsotres. I thought I'd post some pictures, swatches, and a little bit of a first impression.

I got two shades: Fierce & Tangy (matte orange) and Too Cool (a shimmery white).

These are nicely creamy cream shadows that have been likened to MAC Paint Pots, though I haven't found any dupes yet. Hopefully, Maybelline will put out a bunch more colors!

Fierce & Tangy

Too Cool

Swatched, the orange wasn't as bright as it was in the pot, but it was still nicely pigmented. I've already thought up a tutorial or two using it. The white was also nicely pigmented, but I think an even application is going to be a bit tricky.

Fierce & Tangy, Too Cool
And once these things set, they are on! I scrubbed at my hand with soap and hot water for a good 10 minutes, and the swatches were still there! I'm definitely going to have to put these to the 24hr test!

Jane Eye Zing Eye Mixers Palettes

Back at the end of November, Hautelook was having a sale on Jane cosmetics. Having never tried Jane products, I decided to pick up a couple palettes since they were only 3 bucks each.

I got two of their Eye Zing Eye Mixers palettes--one in Nirvana and one in Collection 1.

Collection 1 palette

L-R: Purple Heart, Dazzle, Sungloss, Dream Cream, Clubbing, Hi Ho Silver, It's a Girl.
Bottom: White Lies
Nirvana palette

L-R: Purple Heart, Perfection, Sage, Moss, Hazel Nut, Me, Dream Cream, Brownie Points

Each palette has a mix of shimmery and matte shades, though the matte shades outnumber shimmer. I actually like this as I don't have a ton of matte shadows. The shadows weren't as soft as I would like (Wet n Wild shadows are the coup de grace of drugstore shadows, so I tend to compare shadows to them). They were a bit like how ELF shadows can be--some good some bad. Brownie Points is probably the best color out of these--great texture, great pigmentation.

Some of these shadows are listed as possible dupes for high end products which you can check out here.
