Jane Eye Zing Eye Mixers Palettes

Back at the end of November, Hautelook was having a sale on Jane cosmetics. Having never tried Jane products, I decided to pick up a couple palettes since they were only 3 bucks each.

I got two of their Eye Zing Eye Mixers palettes--one in Nirvana and one in Collection 1.

Collection 1 palette

L-R: Purple Heart, Dazzle, Sungloss, Dream Cream, Clubbing, Hi Ho Silver, It's a Girl.
Bottom: White Lies
Nirvana palette

L-R: Purple Heart, Perfection, Sage, Moss, Hazel Nut, Me, Dream Cream, Brownie Points

Each palette has a mix of shimmery and matte shades, though the matte shades outnumber shimmer. I actually like this as I don't have a ton of matte shadows. The shadows weren't as soft as I would like (Wet n Wild shadows are the coup de grace of drugstore shadows, so I tend to compare shadows to them). They were a bit like how ELF shadows can be--some good some bad. Brownie Points is probably the best color out of these--great texture, great pigmentation.

Some of these shadows are listed as possible dupes for high end products which you can check out here.

Gnomeo & Juliet (2011)

Directed by: Kelly Asbury
Starring: James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, & Jason Statham
Rated G

Let me say this: I’m not a fan of Romeo & Juliet. Not. At. All. I’ve read the play and watched the original 60s film and the Leonardo DiCaprio version (which is weeeeiiiirrrd). I’m the world’s most hopeless, pathetic romantic, but Romeo & Juliet just rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it’s the fact that I don’t believe in love at first sight. Lust, yes, but not love.

Anyways, all that aside, I really did enjoy this movie. Gnomeo and Juliet are not the sappy, na├»ve teenagers in Shakespeare’s work: they’re witty, mature, and have legit chemistry based on a love of adventure (as opposed to the play when it’s just mutual attraction). The film stays fairly true to the play, but without a lot of the depressing tragedy and the intelligible dialogue. Though the original Shakespearean English is not used, some of the original dialogue remains that’s been translated into modern English—I quite enjoyed the tower scene this time around.

This movie has a very star-studded cast. Not only do you have James McAvoy and Emily Blunt, but you get Michael Caine as Juliet’s father and Maggie Smith as Gnomeo’s mother. Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne plays a deer, Julie Walters is the owner of the blue yard, Dolly Parton is a gnome, Hulk Hogan is a voice in a lawnmower ad, and Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) plays none other than Bill Shakespeare himself. And I never thought I’d live to see the day that Jason Statham acts in a kid’s movie. Life made! He makes a great villain as Tybalt, though I would have loved to see some of the kung fu Statham is famous for.

I really do like this movie. The animation is great and the soundtrack is awesome (Elton John for the win!). Plus, it made me, probably the biggest hater of Romeo & Juliet ever, enjoy one of Shakespeare’s most well-known plays.

So, if you’re a kid at heart, or enjoy a simple love story, I’d definitely recommend it.

L'Oreal Project Runway Collection

On a semi-recent trip to my local Walgreens, I was lucky enough to find a grouping of L'Oreal's Limited Edition Project Runway collection in the clearance aisle. I can't tell you how excited I was! I saw the collection earlier this last fall, but everything was fairly pricey by drugstore standards (one of the eye quads was 9 bucks!). When I saw these for a fraction of the price, I couldn't resist!

If you're unfamiliar with the collection, there were 4 complete sets of an eye quad, a blush/bronzer, a lipstick, and one or two nail polishes based on four different birds: raven, owl, cockatoo, and amazon. At my Walgreens, they had all 4 lipsticks and blushes, two of the eye quads, and 5 nail polishes.

I ended up buying one lipstick, 4 nail polishes, and 2 eyeshadow quads.

The lipstick I picked up was Sultry Raven's Pout, a nice neutral-nude color. I believe emilynoel83 said it was a dupe for L'Oreal's Fairest Nude, so if you missed out on this one, you can still get a similar shade.
Sultry Raven's Pout
Of the five nail polishes there, I picked up four.
Left to Right: Cockatoo's Wisdom, Amazon's Flash, Amazon's Flare, & Raven's Strength
Cockatoo's Wisdom (creme finish) is a dark purplish-grey color with a tinge of brown. I think it's a great fall/winter shade, but it's very sheer--you'll need at least 3 coats for an even finish.

Amazon's Flash is a super shimmery gold glitter in a clear base. The glitter is very finely milled and shines like crazy.

Amazon's Flare (creme finish) is a solid hot pink. Its soo pretty! It'll be perfect for spring/summer.

Raven's Strength is a dark grey with silver shimmer. Another great winter shade!

Finally, I picked up two eyeshadow quads.
Audacious Amazon's Gaze

This quad has a slightly shimmery lime green/chartreuse, a matte yellow, a shimmery/pearl rusty orange, and a bright matter purple.
All the shades are nicely pigmented

Watchful Owl's Gaze

This quad has a metallic gold, a shimmery champagne, a shimmery medium-tone brown, and a dark chocolate brown with gold shimmer.
Absolutely love this quad!

I'm really happy with my purchases, and I can't wait to start playing with them! I think out of everything, the eyeshadow quads are my absolute favorites. If you'd like reviews on any of the products, let me know!

See you in a later post!!

DIY: Repurpose Your Necklace!

Hey guys! So I have another DIY project for you! With a pair of pliers, some jump rings, and a few clasps, you can turn an old necklace into two new bracelets! See how I did it!

This necklace came in a box of beads my mom bought at an auction!
First you need a necklace that's sectionalized like the one above. The first time I saw it, I knew it'd make a gorgeous bracelet!

Using your pliers, loosen the beaded portions from the jewelled section. You should have a length of about 7 inches.

Finally, I added a few jump rings to make the bracelet a bit longer and attached a lobster clasp. I also used my pliers to remove the last white bead on this section (all the rest had already fallen off).

Finished!

With the remaining two beaded sections, I reconnected them using my pliers before adding a round clasp. I also removed the hook thingy off the end.
Wah-la! Another new bracelet!
I hope you guys found this useful, and maybe gave you an idea on how to transform some pieces you might have just lying around. See you next time!

DIY Jewelmint Paramour bracelet

Would you like your own Jewelmint piece without spending $30 to get it? Well, I have a quick and easy DIY tutorial that will help you make your own Paramour bracelet for a fraction of the price!
What you will need:
Jump rings--you can get these at any craft store for around 3 bucks a pack
A closure--the one pictured above is a twist closure, but I later replaced it with a rod-and-ring closure
A pair of needlenose pliers
7 rings--mix up the metals and styles of the rings for a more authentic piece. You can buy ring sets at any accessory store, I just used a bunch I had from garage sales that were too small.

First, use your pliers to open a jump ring.

Slip a ring onto the jump ring, and use the pliers to close firmly. Make sure there are no gaps in the jump ring--you don't want your bracelet to fall apart on you!

You should end up with something like this.

Repeat this process until all the rings are connected. Attach your closure in the same way.

Here's the finished product!

Layer with some other bracelets for pretty "boho" look!
A tutorial for the left bracelet coming soon!
Let me know if you try this! More to come soon!

Tag: 100 Questions No One Asks

Hey guys! I know, I know. Bad Shelby. I'm sorry I haven't been posting lately. Believe it or not, I do have some posts ready to go (3 finished, and a bunch of pics and ideas for the next couple of months), but for some reason, I'm having trouble uploading pictures through Blogger. Stupid website. Hopefully I'll have the problem fixed soon, because I have some great stuff to show you, like a Jewelmint DIY, a few necklace transformations, new product features, and some movie reviews and previews!!

So today I decided to do a tag post, since it doesn't require pictures, and I actually enjoy doing them. Feel free to tag me via twitter, Youtube, or email with any tags you want to see!

BONUS JONAS QUESTION: something that happened to you in middle school. My high school class was extremely small (45 people) with a majority of them girls (we only had 12 boys!). You can just imagine the drama! In seventh and eighth grade alone, we had a fistfight in the middle of class, pregnancy rumors, cyberbullying, threats of assault which led to the cops coming to school, and school policy changes. Those were extremely dramatic years that really impacted our class during our senior high days. A message to younger girls: you will have drama to deal with in middle and high school, but it does end. Just stick it out, and stay on the sidelines of it.
